Texecom Premier Elite — Engineer Code
Purpose
This guide covers entering engineer mode, changing the engineer code, and recovering a lost engineer code on the Premier Elite.
1. Default Engineer Code
The factory default engineer code is 1234.
Change the engineer code on every new installation. The customer must never know the engineer code — it provides full access to programming.
2. Entering Engineer Mode
The Premier Elite requires dual authorisation to enter engineer mode — the engineer code alone is not enough. A Master User must also confirm access:
- At the keypad, enter the engineer code (default 1234) and press Yes
- The keypad displays: "Do you want to enable engineer?" or similar
- The Master User enters their code and presses Yes to confirm
- The engineer is now logged in — the engineer menu is accessible
This dual-authorisation requirement is a Grade 2 security standard under EN 50131. It prevents an engineer from accessing programming without the customer's knowledge.
Engineer access timeout
Engineer access automatically resets every 24 hours (at midnight). After midnight, the Master User must re-confirm access even if the engineer has not logged off. If you are on a multi-day job, expect to re-enable access each morning.
3. Logging Off Engineer Mode
Always log off when finished programming:
- Press R twice to reach the logoff screen (or navigate to the logoff option in the engineer menu)
- Enter the engineer code and press 0 or Yes
- The keypad returns to normal standby — engineer mode is exited
Alternatively, the panel will automatically log off the engineer when the Engineer Logoff Delay Timer expires (configured in Wintex → System Options).
4. Changing the Engineer Code
Via the keypad engineer menu:
- Enter engineer mode as above
- Navigate to Engineer Utilities → Change Engineer Code
- Enter the new code (4, 5, or 6 digits)
- Confirm the new code
- The code is changed immediately
Via Wintex:
- Connect Wintex
- Go to Programming → Users → User 00
- Edit the code field
- Upload to panel
5. Recovering a Lost Engineer Code
If the engineer code has been forgotten:
Method 1 — Hardware reset button (works if NVM is not locked)
- Ensure the panel lid tamper is intact (lid closed and fixed to the wall)
- Locate the Factory Default button on the panel PCB (a small push button — check the installation manual for its position on your panel variant)
- Hold the button for 6 seconds
- The keypads will beep to confirm the engineer code has been reset to 1234
- The rest of the programming (zones, users, etc.) is unaffected
This only resets the engineer code — it does not factory default the panel.
Method 2 — Full Reset & Default
If the hardware button method does not work (NVM locked, or button not accessible), the options are:
- Follow the full Reset & Default procedure — see Reset & Default
- Or contact Texecom technical support if the board's NVM has been locked
If NVM is locked
NVM locking is a deliberate security feature that prevents the hardware reset. If enabled on a takeover job, the panel board may need to be returned to Texecom or replaced. This is rare on domestic installations but more common on commercial jobs where the previous engineer locked the panel intentionally.
6. Engineer Code on Takeover Jobs
When taking over an existing system:
- Ask the customer if they have any engineer contact details from the previous company
- Try the most common default codes: 1234, 5678, 2580
- If none work, use the hardware reset button method above to reset to 1234
- If the panel is NVM locked, Texecom technical support is the next step
