Texecom Premier Elite — Walk Test
Purpose
A walk test confirms that every zone activates correctly and is programming correctly before the system is handed over. It must be done on every new installation and after any zone changes. This guide covers accessing walk test mode and what to check.
1. Before Starting
- The system must be fully disarmed — walk test cannot be started when any area is armed
- Have two people if possible — one at the keypad, one walking the building activating devices
- Ensure every zone is wired and all detectors have power before starting
2. Starting Walk Test — Engineer Menu
Walk test is accessed from the engineer menu:
- Enter engineer mode (see Engineer Code)
- Navigate to Do Walk Test in the engineer menu
- Select which areas to include — press the corresponding number keys (1 = Area A, 2 = Area B, etc.) and press Yes
- Walk test mode is now active
Alternative — Master User access (if engineer has enabled this)
- Enter the master user code and press Menu
- Navigate to Do Walk Test, press Yes
- Select the areas, press Yes
3. During the Walk Test
Walk every zone in sequence:
- Trigger each PIR by walking through its detection arc
- Open and close each door/window contact
- For shock sensors, tap the surface they are mounted on
- For bell box tamper, remove the lid briefly
What the keypad shows:
- Each zone activation causes the keypad to chime once and display the zone name
- The chime confirms the zone has activated and been logged
- Activating the same zone multiple times does not produce additional chimes (only the first activation is logged per walk test session)
Checking untested zones:
- Press A on the keypad during walk test to cycle through:
- First press: zones not yet tested in this session
- Second press: zones not activated today
- Third press: zones not activated in the past N days
- Use this to identify any zones you have missed
- Press C to return to the main walk test display
24-hour zones during walk test:
- 24-hour zones (except Fire and Tamper circuits) are suppressed during walk test
- This allows testing audible PA buttons and other devices without triggering a full alarm
- Fire and tamper zones remain active — do not trigger them during walk test unless testing specifically
4. What to Check on Each Zone
| Check | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Zone activates | Keypad chimes and displays the zone name when triggered |
| Zone name correct | The keypad shows the right name — matches the zone list |
| Zone returns to secure | After activating, zone shows secure again within a few seconds |
| No unexpected activations | A zone should not appear on the keypad unless physically triggered — if it does, check wiring |
5. Completing the Walk Test
- Check the "not yet tested" list (press A) and confirm it is empty — every zone should have been activated
- Investigate any zones that failed to activate — check detector operation, wiring, and terminations
- Exit walk test: press C or exit the engineer menu
6. After Walk Test
- Confirm the event log in Wintex shows all zone activations from the walk test
- Check there are no zone faults remaining after walk test mode exits
- Record the walk test date on the commissioning sheet
