Texecom Premier Elite — Firmware Upgrade
Purpose
This guide covers upgrading the firmware on a Premier Elite panel. Firmware upgrades fix bugs, add features, and are often required before fitting a SmartCom or other new hardware. There are two methods: manual via the Premier Elite Flasher (for older panels or panels without a SmartCom), and OTA via Texecom Cloud (for panels already connected with a SmartCom).
Before You Start
- Save a Wintex backup first — connect to the panel and download the full configuration before upgrading. Save the file. A firmware flash may reset programming and you will need to reload it.
- Check compatibility — confirm the firmware version you are installing supports the hardware on the panel (especially if adding a SmartCom for the first time)
- Do not interrupt power during the upgrade — a failed flash mid-process can brick the panel
- Check release notes — new firmware features default to "off" after the upgrade; review the release notes on texe.com to see what's changed
Method 1 — Premier Elite Flasher (Manual)
Use this method when:
- The panel has no SmartCom, or
- The existing firmware is below V5.xx, or
- OTA has failed and the panel needs a manual recovery
What you need
- Premier Elite Flasher hardware (the interface adapter) — keep this in your van toolkit
- Premier Elite Flasher software — download from texe.com (registered installer login required). Firmware files are bundled with the software download.
- Laptop running Windows with the Flasher software installed
Procedure
-
Connect Wintex and download the full panel configuration → save the file. This is your backup.
-
Disconnect Wintex and the USB-Com cable from the panel.
-
Connect the Flasher hardware to the panel's COM1 port and to your laptop via USB.
-
Open the Premier Elite Flasher software.
-
Select the panel type from the dropdown (e.g. "Premier Elite 48").
-
Select the firmware version to install. The latest available firmware is included with the software — check texe.com for updated software versions if your copy is old.
-
Click Flash — the upgrade takes approximately 3–4 minutes. The panel LEDs will behave unusually during the flash — this is normal.
-
Do not disconnect power or the Flasher cable until the software confirms the flash is complete.
-
After the flash, the panel will reboot automatically.
-
Perform an NVM reset to initialise any new firmware parameters to their defaults. This is a selective default — it does not wipe your zone or user programming. (Menu location: Engineer Utilities → Default Options → NVM Reset or similar — exact path varies by firmware version.)
-
Reconnect Wintex and upload the saved configuration profile back to the panel.
-
Verify the configuration — check zones, user codes, area timers, and communications settings are all correct after the upload.
-
Test the system — walk test and confirm SmartCom connectivity if fitted.
If you cannot find the firmware file
Email customersupport@texe.com with your panel type and current firmware version — they will supply the correct file.
Method 2 — Texecom Cloud OTA
Use this method when:
- The panel has a SmartCom fitted and is online
- The panel is running firmware V5.xx or above
Procedure
-
Log into cloud.texe.com and navigate to the site.
-
The portal will show a notification if a newer firmware version is available.
-
Go to Panel → Upgrade Firmware.
-
Review the version and release notes, then confirm the upgrade.
-
The cloud pushes the firmware to the panel via the SmartCom. The SmartCom LEDs may flash sporadically during the upgrade — this is normal.
-
The panel reboots and reconnects automatically. The upgrade typically takes 5–10 minutes.
-
Verify the panel is back online in the cloud portal (Cloud LED solid on SmartCom).
-
Check the configuration via Wintex — confirm zones, users, and comms settings after the upgrade.
OTA upgrades are the preferred method going forward. They require no site visit and no Flasher hardware.
After Every Firmware Upgrade
- Confirm the firmware version in Wintex (shown in the panel info at connection)
- Re-test walk test if any zone types or wiring options were affected by the upgrade
- Check SmartCom reconnects to cloud (Cloud LED solid)
