Texecom Premier Elite — Wintex Guide

Purpose

Wintex is Texecom's Windows-based upload/download and diagnostics software for the Premier Elite series. It is the primary tool for full system programming, bulk configuration of zones and users, and remote diagnostics. This guide covers connection, navigation, and the key tasks you will do in Wintex.

Wintex is available only to registered Texecom installers. Download from texe.com → Help & Support → Product Downloads (installer login required). Always use the latest version.

1. Connecting to the Panel

Local USB connection (most common on site)

  1. Connect a Premier Elite USB-Com cable — 5-pin Molex end into the panel's COM1 port, USB end into your laptop
  2. Windows installs the FT232R USB UART driver automatically (requires internet connection first time)
  3. In Device Manager → Ports (COM & LPT) — note the COM port number assigned to "USB Serial Port" (e.g. COM3, COM6)
  4. In Wintex, go to File → UDL Settings and enter this COM port number
  5. Click Connect — status bar shows "Online Ready" when connected

Do not use the COM port for SmartCom while connected locally via USB. The USB-Com cable and SmartCom both use COM1 — only one can be connected at a time.

Remote connection via Texecom Cloud

If the panel has a SmartCom installed and cloud connectivity:

  1. Log into cloud.texe.com and navigate to the site
  2. Click UDL → Start Remote UDL — a temporary IP address and port number are displayed
  3. In Wintex, create or open the site account → set the connection type to Direct IP and enter the IP and port shown in the cloud portal
  4. Click Connect — Wintex tunnels through the cloud to the panel

2. Creating a Site Account in Wintex

Before connecting to a new panel, set up a site account:

  1. In Wintex, click File → New Account
  2. Enter:
    • Account reference — your job reference
    • File name — saved on your laptop
    • Panel type — e.g. "Elite 48", "Elite 88"
    • UDL password — must match the password programmed in the panel (default: 1234)
  3. Save the account

Always download from the panel first before making any changes — this loads the current configuration into Wintex and prevents overwriting with blank or default data.

3. Upload and Download

ActionWhat it does
Download (panel → Wintex)Reads all current programming from the panel into your Wintex file
Upload (Wintex → panel)Sends your Wintex programming to the panel — overwrites what is there

Rule: Always download before editing. Always upload after changes. Never upload to the wrong panel — check the site account before connecting.

4. Key Programming Areas

Zones and Attributes

Configure every zone on the system:

  • Zone Type — Entry/Exit, Guard, 24Hr Audible, 24Hr Silent, Fire, PA, Tamper, etc.
  • Zone Wiring — Double EOL, EOL, NC, etc.
  • Zone Areas — which area(s) the zone belongs to
  • Zone Text — the name that appears on the keypad (e.g. "Front Door", "Hall PIR")
  • Zone Attributes — chime, arm override, activity monitoring, etc.

Areas

Configure each area's timers and options:

  • Exit Delay, Entry Delay 1 & 2
  • Bell Delay (time before sounder activates after alarm)
  • Bell Duration
  • Comms Delay (delay before ARC is notified)
  • Arming modes available (Full Arm, Part Arm 1, Part Arm 2)
  • Engineer reset required option

Users

Add, edit, and delete user codes. See User Code Setup for full detail.

  • Each user has a code, type, area access, time lock, and name
  • User 00 = Engineer, User 01 = Master User

Outputs

Configure the panel's programmable outputs:

  • Output type (siren, strobe, door strike, etc.)
  • Activation conditions (alarm, tamper, area arm, etc.)
  • Timed or continuous

Communications

Configure COM ports and ARC signalling:

  • COM Port Setup — assign each COM port its function (SmartCom, ComIP, keypad, expander, digital dialler)
  • UDL Password — the password used for Wintex connection (default 1234, must be changed)
  • ARC protocols — SIA, Contact ID, or Texecom Monitor
  • Account codes — the panel's reference number at the ARC

System Options

Global panel settings:

  • Engineer logoff timer
  • Anti-code settings (lockout after wrong codes)
  • Service interval timer
  • Calendar/clock settings
  • Dual-path comms settings

Expanders and Keypads

Assign addresses and configure options for:

  • Zone expanders (8XP, 8XE)
  • Keypads and RKPs
  • ComPort+ adapters

5. Diagnostics

With Wintex connected, go to Diagnostics to view:

  • Zone Status — live state of every zone (Secure, Open, Tamper, Fault)
  • Output Status — live state of all outputs
  • Event Log — full panel history with timestamps
  • System Health — power status, battery voltage, etc.

Zone Status is invaluable for fault-finding — you can watch zone states change in real time as you work through the cable run.

6. Saving and Backing Up

  • Wintex saves the programming as a local file on your laptop
  • After every job, back up the file to a shared drive or cloud storage — you may need it for future changes or if a panel has to be replaced
  • File names should include the site address and date: e.g. 12 High St - 2026-05-13.we7
