AES OPYN Multi — Multi-Apartment

System Overview

The AES OPYN Multi is the multi-resident version of the AES OPYN video intercom. A single panel at the entrance serves an entire apartment block — each call button connects to an individual resident's smartphone via the AES Opyn app. The building manager administers all apartments from a single account.

VideoYes — live video to each resident's app
AudioTwo-way
AnsweringAES Opyn app (iOS / Android) — per apartment
PowerPoE (preferred) or 12V DC
ConnectivityLAN + WiFi, or 4G SIM
ResidentsUnlimited app users per device
Keypad codesUp to 150 codes

How It Works

  • Each call button on the panel is mapped to one apartment
  • When a visitor presses a button, a video call goes to that apartment's resident(s) via the app
  • Residents answer, speak to the visitor, and release the front door from their phone
  • The building manager manages all apartments, users, and access codes from the app
  • Each resident only sees and answers calls from their own button — they cannot see other apartments

Components

  • AES OPYN Multi panel (configured for the number of apartments required)
  • PoE switch or injector, or 12V DC power supply
  • Cat5/6 cable (LAN connection)
  • Electric door release (strike or maglock) for front door
  • 2-core cable for door release
  • Data SIM card (4G models)

Power & Wiring

Identical to the single OPYN — see AES OPYN — Single Property for full wiring details.

Key points:

  • PoE preferred — minimum 1.0mm² cable, max 8m, max 300mA
  • Fit back-EMF suppression on door release (diode for DC, capacitor for AC)
  • LAN wired connection strongly recommended over WiFi for a building installation

App Setup — Building Manager

The installer sets up the building manager account first. This account has full admin access to all apartments.

  1. Download the AES Opyn app (iOS / Android)
  2. Create an account at aesglobalonline.com or in the app
  3. Add the OPYN Multi panel — scan the QR code on the rear or enter serial number
  4. Create a site for the building (e.g. "Gloucester Court")
  5. Within the site, create an entry for each apartment (e.g. Flat 1, Flat 2...)
  6. Assign each call button to its corresponding apartment entry
  7. The building manager account can now see all apartments, manage codes, and monitor the system

Resident Setup — Per Apartment

Each resident is invited separately. They only have access to their own apartment.

  1. In the app, go to the apartment entry and tap Invite Resident
  2. Enter the resident's email address
  3. Resident receives an email invite — they download AES Opyn, create an account, and accept
  4. Once accepted, the resident receives video calls when their apartment button is pressed at the door
  5. Repeat for all apartments

Multiple users per apartment: Residents can share access with other household members — each person downloads the app and is invited by the primary resident or the building manager.

Access Codes & QR Codes

  • Up to 150 keypad codes across the building — managed in app
  • Codes can be building-wide (e.g. tradesperson access) or per apartment
  • QR codes can be issued for one-off or recurring visitor access
  • Alexa and Google Home integration available for hands-free door release within a flat

Testing

  • Each apartment button sends a video call to the correct resident's app
  • Two-way audio and video work on each button
  • Each resident can release the front door from their app
  • Residents cannot see or answer calls from other apartments
  • Keypad codes work at the panel
  • Building manager account can see all apartments
  • Test on mobile data (not just site WiFi) to confirm remote answering works

Handover to Building Manager

Before leaving site:

  1. Confirm building manager has full access and can see all apartments in the app
  2. Walk the building manager through inviting a new resident and removing a leaver
  3. Show how to add/remove keypad codes
  4. Confirm the building manager's email and phone are on record in case of access issues
  5. Leave the QR code label (on the rear of the panel) photographed and noted — needed if the device is ever re-added to the app
