AES OPYN — Single Property
System Overview
The AES OPYN is a smart video door intercom answered via the AES Opyn smartphone app. When a visitor presses the call button, the panel sends a live video and audio call to the resident's phone. The resident sees the visitor, speaks to them, and releases the door — all from the app, from anywhere with an internet connection.
| Video | Yes — live video to app on call |
| Audio | Two-way |
| Answering | AES Opyn app (iOS / Android) |
| Power | PoE (preferred) or 12V DC |
| Connectivity | LAN + WiFi, WiFi only, or 4G SIM (model dependent) |
| Door release | Via app or keypad code |
Model Variants
| Model | Connectivity | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| OPYN IP-IBK | LAN (PoE) + WiFi | Wired LAN recommended for reliability |
| OPYN 4G | 4G SIM | No broadband needed at the door |
| OPYN WiFi | WiFi only | Where LAN cable is not possible |
Components
- AES OPYN panel
- PoE switch or injector (LAN models) or 12V DC power supply
- Cat5/6 cable (LAN/PoE connection)
- Electric door release (strike or maglock)
- 2-core cable for door release
- Data SIM card (4G models only)
Power
PoE (preferred):
- IEEE 802.3af PoE from a switch or injector
- Cable: minimum 1.0mm² conductor, maximum 8m run
- Max current draw: 300mA
- Wired LAN is always more stable than WiFi — use PoE and LAN where possible
12V DC:
- 12V DC power supply if PoE is not available
- Pure copper cable; locate PSU close to panel
Wiring
| Connection | Notes |
|---|---|
| LAN port | Cat5/6 from PoE switch — T568B termination |
| Door release relay | 2-core to electric strike or maglock |
| 12V DC power | If not using PoE |
Back-EMF suppression on door release:
- DC lock: fit protection diode across lock terminals (cathode to positive)
- AC lock: fit capacitor across lock terminals
Installation Procedure
Step 1 — Mount the panel
- Surface or flush mount at the entrance
- Standard height: approximately 1.5m to lens centre
- Feed cable through from rear
Step 2 — Connect cables
- Connect Cat5/6 LAN cable to the panel's LAN port (T568B)
- Connect 2-core door release cable to relay output terminals
- For 4G models: insert SIM card (data plan required — the panel connects to the AES cloud, not to a phone number)
Step 3 — Power on
- Connect to PoE switch or 12V DC supply
- Allow 60–90 seconds for the panel to boot and connect
App & Cloud Setup
Step 1 — Download the AES Opyn app
Available on iOS (App Store) and Android (Google Play) — search AES Opyn.
Step 2 — Create an account
Register at aesglobalonline.com or directly in the app.
Step 3 — Add the device
- In the app, tap Add Device
- Scan the QR code on the rear of the panel, or enter the serial number manually
- Assign the device to a site (property name)
Step 4 — Configure WiFi (WiFi/IP models)
- Enter the property's WiFi credentials via the app during setup
- LAN connection takes priority over WiFi if both are connected — leave LAN connected where possible
Step 5 — Invite the resident
- In the app, go to the device settings and tap Invite User
- Enter the resident's email address
- Resident receives an email invitation — they download the AES Opyn app, create an account, and accept the invitation
- Resident now receives video calls when the door button is pressed
Step 6 — Configure keypad codes (if keypad fitted)
- Up to 150 keypad codes can be set
- Codes are managed in the app under device settings
- Useful for cleaners, regular visitors, or as a backup entry method
Door Release
- Resident taps Unlock in the app during or after a call
- Configure release duration in app device settings (typically 3–5 seconds)
- Keypad code entry also triggers the relay if codes are configured
Testing
- Press call button — video call arrives on resident's app
- Two-way audio works
- Video image is clear and correctly exposed
- Resident taps Unlock — door releases and re-locks after correct duration
- Keypad code releases door (if fitted)
- Test from outside WiFi (e.g. on mobile data) to confirm remote answering works
Common Issues
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| App not receiving calls | Check panel is online in app; check app notifications enabled on resident's phone; confirm internet connection at panel |
| Panel shows offline in app | Check PoE or power supply; check LAN cable; restart panel |
| Video not showing on call | Check network bandwidth; switch from WiFi to wired LAN at panel |
| Door not releasing from app | Check relay wiring; confirm correct relay in app settings; check door release cable |
| 4G no connectivity | Check SIM data plan is active; check antenna; try alternative network SIM |
| Resident not receiving invite | Check email spam folder; resend invite from app |
